My name is Karla Garcia and I am a bilingual and bicultural mental health therapist and social worker in Seattle, WA. I offer an array of services from individual counseling, to special population consultations to other healthcare providers.
I believe that we are all born with the innate skills, resilience, and desire to make our lives the best they can be. However, there are times in our lives when we encounter rough waters, and may lose our ability to find and use our skills.
In these times, we must find someone who can offer that guidance without judgement, and assist us in re-discovering our skills, re-engage our resilience, and help us get back on our path to healing.
That's what I hope to be for you!
Who I Am
I am a transplant from Mexico. I grew up in the United States with my family. I consider both my birth country and my home country dear to my heart. I have been privileged to have been raised as a bi-cultural, bilingual and independent individual; fully conscious of the intersectionalities that both my homes bring, empower and lift me up to be. I am the first and only to have graduate from college in our family. I find strength and healing in nature, meaningful relationships, culture, and spirituality.
I hold a license as an independent clinical social worker in the state of Washington. I graduated from Seattle University in 2003 with a Bachelor's of Arts in Social Work, along with a certificate in Diversity, Citizenship, and Social Justice. In 2013 I graduated from the University of Washington with a Master's in Social Work, with a focus on mental health. I have been trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.
I am a bilingual therapist, fluent in both Spanish and English and am able to offer services in either language. I am a firm believer that every individual deserves to be treated with respect and dignity. As such, my approach to mental health treatment is culturally conscious, anti-oppressive, non-judgmental and with a core understanding of social justice.
